Personal | She Still Smiles Upon Us
We recently traveled to Adrian, MI to celebrate a life and bid a final farewell to a city we visited often. Grandma's celebration of life was heartfelt and lined with personal stories of thankfulness and tearful-happy memories. She was a woman like no other I will ever meet in my lifetime. I am so fortunate our children were able to know her, even as painful as it is to watch them grieve. Chelsea attended the service along with us, but quickly became overwhelmed with emotions. Later that day, we drove to the Lenawee County Courthouse, where family history was made after Grandpa served as a judge for nearly 30 years. The courthouse was built in 1885! The newer judicial building is across the street and was named after him. Chelsea's smile in the courthouse tunnel reminds me that even after the tears have dried, in the short moments when we smile, their spirits are always with us as long as we continue to remember.
