Going through my digital library, I realized I never posted any photos of soccer games. Both Chelsea and Alex play soccer and both my husband and I are volunteer coaches for their teams. Slater coaches Chelsea's 2nd and 3rd grade team, while I coach Alex's kindergarten and 1st grade team. For me, I find it rewarding to know I have a hand in the development of our youth. Coaching children this young is more about teaching them teamwork, sportsmanship and fundamentals. This year many of our game times overlapped, only allowing me to watch three of Chelsea's games. It was a cold and rainy season, so my camera stayed home often.
One of Chelsea's favorite positions is goalie. Here she is in action closely monitoring the action. These teams don't keep score, although if you ask any kid, they know the score. The recreation department stresses that coaches focus on fun. Below is a break in action when I called Chelsea's name from behind the net and surprised her that I was there.
Being that I coach Alex's team and am on the field the entire game, I left my camera with my husband. I now realize he needs more training for action photos. This one was snapped during halftime where some of my players would take time to talk at centerfield; Alex is on the left. My husband was impressed my team actually passed the ball around during games. It's common for kids this young to keep control if they are able and score with solo effort. I had a fantastic team this season and am looking forward to working with a new bunch this fall.
