My husband and I celebrated our eleventh year of marriage on May 30. We again rented a cottage in Saugatuck and had friends take care of the kids for an extended weekend. This year was particularly difficult for me to be away from the kids, knowing I was missing kindergarten graduation, the school carnival and their first t-ball game. In the end, it's a decision I don't regret because I know how essential alone time is for a strong, healthy relationship.
One of my favorite things to do with my husband during this time is cook something together that we enjoy, but don't eat often. It's interesting to me how much more I like cooking in a kitchen that's not my own. We allowed ourselves to dine out on our actual anniversary evening, but the rest of the time was laid back and relaxing, just us reconnecting.
We spent many hours on watching the sunset at Oval Beach and strolling the pier at South Haven. The lake was very calm in South Haven, allowing smaller boats to take advantage of the sunset view. We were surprised to see children swimming at both locations... brrr!
The artistic energy I receive from being in this place renews my senses. The way I notice little things becomes re-energized. I take note of shapes, color and textures both outdoors...
.................... and indoors.
